The Courage to be More

This semester you decided to embark on an exciting journey and join a fraternity. I am proud of you for challenging yourself to step outside of your comfort zone. College isn't just about academics; it's about growth, exploration, and embracing every opportunity that comes your way. I hope that your fraternity brings a bond of brotherhood and friendships that will last a lifetime.

College offers you the opportunity to meet some of your best friends who will come from different cultures, backgrounds, and perspectives. Take the time to engage with people who are different from you and embrace the differences that make you all unique. It's through these interactions that you'll broaden your horizons and develop new friendships.

Don't be afraid to continue to push yourself, whether it's joining a new club, taking on a leadership role in your fraternity, or finding an internship. You have already proven that you are brave, confident, and a person other people gravitate towards. Seize every opportunity to challenge yourself and embrace new experiences.

Remember in the hustle and bustle of it all to take care of your physical and mental health. College life can be hectic, but it will also be a time to make the most amazing memories and to have a lot of fun. You may often feel exhausted, and sleep deprived, but that feeling won’t last forever. Make time for self-care; whether it's through a game of basketball, dinner with a friend to catch up, or simply listening to music to feed your soul. Pray in times of need and in gratitude and never lose your faith. Remember, your mental and physical health are paramount to your success.

Take advantage of the wealth of knowledge and experience available to you. Seek out advisors and older fraternity brothers who can offer guidance and support as you navigate through your academic journey. Their insights can be invaluable as you strive to reach your goals.

 I hope you always know how incredibly proud of you I am. I love that you decided to join a fraternity while continuing to pursue your dreams in college. It’s an added layer to your overall college experience. And of course, as your mother, I had to look into what being a Pike truly meant. Here is what I learned: “Once a Pike, always a Pike, and the four pillars you and your brothers all represent are scholars, leaders, athletes, and gentlemen". I couldn’t agree more and know why you found your true fit in Pike. Remember, this is your time to shine, to discover who you are, and to chase after your passions. And in the words of Pikes, always have the “courage to be more".
